Q - Will
people be able to tell that I'm
wearing extensions?
A -The majority of clients want
the most subtle, invisible look
possible, and we are happy to
accommodate-if you go from very
short hair (5 inches or less)
than obviously those close to
you will know something is up-however,
anyone who has never met you will
not be able to that the extensions
aren't your very own hair! This
being said, you may see the odd
loc or bond if th hair isn't styled
properly, or the wind blows, but
99% of people won't notice. Blond
hair and locs are the most difficult
to conceal.
Q - My hair
has highlights in-Can you match
them? Can I continue to get my
highlights done?
A -This one is easy-we tend to
use color blends with hair, especially
with light browns and blondes-the
very top of your hair will not
have extensions on, so we generally
match the color you have at the
nape of your neck, and we can
match the streaks if you like.
Your colorist simply works around
the extensions to re-color. We
can also use extensions to give
you highlights WITHOUT compromising
your hair....
Q - Will
extensions ruin my hair?
A -This is the biggest concern
from clients-The methods we offer
are the least damaging of those
available. Sheila has hundreds
of formerly worried clients who
are very happy with the results-even
after the extensions have come
out.Locs are the least damaging
of all, with no heat or glue,
just tiny crimps that hold the
extensions on. Fusion does require
heat to apply so we recommend
it ONLY for clients who are thinning
a lot at the top, but we have
had no trouble in careful removal
from clients, as we use a high
quality phosphate that turns into
a powder and comes out EASILY
in removal. Most damage happens
when clients don't take off extensions
properly, or an inexperienced
Stylist doesn't take care in the
removal process. We have plenty
of clients who would be happy
to talk to you about their experiences.
Q - Can
I talk to your clients and get
a referral?
A -Absolutely! we have a long
list of happy clients in all ethnicities
that would be happy to talk to
you about their experience, then
we hope you will be on that list!
Q - Can
African American clients get individual
extensions? Does it wreck our
our hair?
A -African American client appointments
are our biggest growth demographic-contrary
to what what most African American
clients hear, locs and loc tracks
are a fabulous low-damage alternative
to bulky, uncomfortable weaves,
and gives ladies an actual 'natural'
look that is often long sought
after. Many celebrities including
Halle Berry now sport extensions
because of the more natural appearance.
**Individual locs can be brought
up to the top of a clients head,
but unlike weaves, SOME HAIR must
be left out to cover locs at the
top. For a look where the hair
is coming out of the scalp-or
for a texture unlike your own,
we would need to do an integration
method: Click here for info on
integrations
Q. Do You
Braids or Weaves?
A -Contrary to popular belief,
braids, weaves, and sewn-in tracks
actually CAUSE thinning, breakage
and hair loss, and we have a lot
of clients who come to us in tears
because of the damage braiding
has done to their hair, especially
thinning at the temples. It's
nice to see the joy in their eyes
when their hair starts to grow
back again, after being a client
of ours for a few months.
Q - I have
very short hair-can I get extensions?
A -If your hair is at least a
few inches long, you can get extensions,
however, what you won't get is
a one length look-it will have
to be layered throughout into
a shag cut-It can be a drag, but
the top of your head still needs
to show, if we leave the long
hair at the back, what you will
have is a mullet. Yikes! Sheila
knows an advanced method not known
to any but advanced extensionists
where She places random strands
close to the top that break up
the cap, and give a more fluid
appearance, it's difficult, which
is why short hair appointments
take longer, but the overall effect
is great!
Q - How
long will it take to add extensions
to my own hair?
A - It depends on what you want.
Fusion takes 2-4 hours, Locs take
about 2 hours, and temporary hair
takes 45 minutes or less. For
people with less hair (not necessarily
fine hair) the apts are shorter,
for a lot of hair the apts are
longer.
Q - Do I
need to buy expensive special
shampoos and conditioners?
A - You can use exactly the same
products of your choice on your
new hair that you would on your
very own irreplaceable head of
hair.-BE LIGHT on conditioners
though they do loosen the bond.
I would also avoid oil based conditioners,
as they may cause the hair to
slip. We like Bumble and Bumple
products and Puroleogy...
Q - Can
I use a hairdryer, hot rollers,flatirons
and other styling equipment?
A - Yes, you can use all of the
above, We only use real human
hair. Unless we use virgin Russian
hair however, the hair can be
colored red or darkened, but cannot
be bleached or lightened. High
heat on the fusion bonds will
cause them to slip, so it's important
to keep heat away from the bonds
(blow-dryers should be set to
cool) Loc Extensions need to be
brushed gently, but heat has little
effect. Always use a soft bristle
brush with your hair, (never use
a comb!)
Q - How
long will my extensions last?
A - It's different for every head-my
African American clients are the
luckiest-all methods typically
last the longest on them. Fusion
lasts 3 months or until hair grows
out (approx. 1/2 inch per month)
then will need to be fully redone
(ie., more expensive) Goddess
individual locs last as long as
you want with monthly maintenance
appointments (hair will stay nice
for about 8 months. Goddess Extensions
offers not only the only method
that works long term without a
complete redom but the only loc
method, where the rings are reusable,
and only need to be uncrimped
and slid up. Temporary Hair lasts
a few weeks to a month. If something
goes wrong and say 50 strands
come out in a week, we will redo
the extensions free, but there
are absolutely no refunds-it's
the risk you take for trying something
new with your hair. People with
dry hair (roots especially) have
the best lucks with extensions
overall, and people with oily
hair or roots will need more frequent
touchups with fusion. Locs don't
involve heat or glue, so they
are a preferred method for most
people. You need to care for the
extensions to get the most out
of them, and budget $75 a month
for maintenance. After a certain
amount of time, the hair may also
need replacing, as it tends to
get dry-that being said, it's
our goal to help you keep your
extensions in for as long as you
want them, in a manner cost effective
to you. Once a client of ours,
you will only pay for a full reapplication
again if more than 30% of the
bonds have grown out or come out...
Q - Do You
Have a Cosmetology License? Can
you cut and color my own hair?
Under section 7316 of
the California Cosmetology and
Barbering Regulations, we are
not required to have a license
if we do not cut or color hair,
we cut and blend the extensions
to your preferred style, but we
do not touch your hair.
Q - Can
I bath, shower, swim, go out in
the wind and rain, and play sports
in my new extensions?
A - Your new hair will look as
fabulous wet as real hair does,
although the joins may show a
little in water. You can wash
and style your extensions exactly
as you would your own hair (do
be a little gentler) Extensive
water exposure will loosen fusion
extensions though-so dry carefully
after. If you swim a lot, we recommend
you wear a swim cap.
Q - Do You
Take Every Client that Wants Extensions?
A -Absolutely not. This is our
art work, and we have a 90% success
rate in keeping happy clients,
which is very important to us.
If someone has a situation where
we can't help them, We will respectfully
decline the service. If someone
is unsure about getting the extensions,
or is having trouble understanding
the process, we will recommend
they continue to do research on
their own, or find another stylist.
Periodically, we come across women
whose expectations are above and
beyond what we can do for them,
and we have learned that is it
not worth the time, expense and
let down involved on both sides.
Sheila has worked very hard to
provide a great deal of education
on this website, as well as as
care in the consultation process,
and it is integral to our work
as artists to make as many people
satisfied with this experience
as we possibly can.... :)
The steps we will
follow to do your hair extensions
are as follows:
Tell us your situation
in person, by phone or email,
(ie., what length, texture and
color your hair is, and what you
want it to look like)
We will meet in
person to do extensions color
and texture matching, pay your
hair deposit, and set the appointment
date (If you are far away, everything
can be done same day) (Hair deposits
are non-refundable)
Meet to do the application
(In some cases, We do travel to
clients, but there is a $75/hr
drive time fee) Re-application
depending on how the extensions
take to your hair (typically once
a month for an hour-$75 minimum)
